Quirk-Silva Cites Her Students as Inspiration For Seeking Re-Election

FULLERTON, CA—65th Assembly District Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva today announced filing her papers for re-election citing a passion for continuing to fight for the people of Orange County and California.

“Just about every morning I think about the students I’ve had,” said Quirk-Silva, who is a schoolteacher by training. “Those bright, inquisitive faces and their desire to learn and do well, some of who came to school hungry and even some of those who were homeless.

“They inspire me to deliver on the important things, to tackle big problems and find solutions that will improve their lives, even if just a little bit.  I’m running for re-election for them and all the people like them in our community who want the system to work for them, not against them.”

Quirk-Silva spent over 20 years teaching in the Fullerton School District prior to being elected to the Assembly in 2016. She is the former Mayor of Fullerton and served in the Assembly from 2012-2014.

The 65th Assembly District includes Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Palma, Stanton and most of West Anaheim.

Ellen Ballard taught in Fullerton School District for many years before retiring, promoted high academic standards for students, and helped to enact shared accountability initiatives for teachers, parents and students.

The cost of a UC education has skyrocketed 469% over the past 30 years. That hurts students, family and our state as a whole.

So, on May 22 I rolled out new legislation, Assembly Constitutional Amendment 27 (ACA 27), which checks the power of the University of California (UC) Regents and the UC President. The legislation would require greater transparency and openness in setting salaries, and how the UC system spends money.

The next step: I need you to sign our petition encouraging passage of ACA 27. Please click here to add your voice!!
